[Reading maps was one thing Jensen was pretty good at. It had been part of his training after all when he first joined the army. His drill sergeant made sure that it was a skill that was ingrained into the mind of ever private in his company. So finding themselves lost on a hike wasn't something that he wanted to admit out loud.

He looked closely at the map in his hands, tracing his finger along what was supposed to be the trail they were taking.]

I'm pretty sure this is the right way. We just went a little bit off course.

[This was supposed to be a fun hike. A fun, easy and straight forward (or at least relatively straight forward) hike which was why Rikku had agreed to go with Jensen in the first place. Maps had never been really her thing, but then again neither had been planning, which was why she had trusted Jensen with the map in the first place because he'd had all that military training. Weren't soldiers supposed to be good with directions? There was no way they could get lost.

At least that's what she had thought.

She had been kind of concerned half an hour ago when he had kept correcting himself when they were making their way up the path but now after an hour later and with him still saying that...well, it's enough to cause her to have a little bit of concern.]

What's 'a little bit', exactly?

A little bit's a little bit. I'm guessing maybe a hundred meters away? That's not too bad.

[He tries to laugh it off, trying his best to sound reassuring as he folds the map, tucking into pocket. A hundred meters was a stretch. Five hundred meters was probably a better ballpark for how far they strayed.

If there was one thing Jensen was glad for at least, it was that the rest of the losers weren't around to see him screw up. He'd never hear the end of it otherwise.]

C'mon. I'm sure we'll reach the summit before you know it.

[The look she gives him his absolutely withering. She's never been good with guessing and she's never hiked this trail before so how should she know? But seriously. A hundred? Even she's finding that hard to believe.

After glaring at him a little bit she huffs and turns on her heel stomping back up the mountain.]

If we run into a cave full of bears I'm feeding you to them and getting the heck out of there on my own.

[He lets out a sigh as he quickens his pace to catch up to her.]

We're not going to run into any bears. They wouldn't open this place to the public if there were bears roaming around.

[Or at least that's what he'd like to think, but hey, it's not like he wanted to make matters worse.]

I like to think that it's more likely that we'll come across a deer or a raccoon or something like those. Cute, furry animals.

This is nature! [Her arms flail upwards and wildly for just a moment as she walks.] You can't close down nature and say, 'Hey, nature. Today we're open to the public but we don't want you to throw any bears our way'.[It's funny how quickly her mood can change when something seemingly goes wrong- but almost as soon as he mentions those magic words...]

Really? Do you think we'll see rabbits too?

Maybe they lured the bears back into their caves by using picnic baskets.

[He thinks that's funny but if it were anyone else, they wouldn't have touched the topic of the bears again, just happy to divert the conversation towards a different direction. But this is Jensen we're talking about and things just didn't work that way. After all, he lets his mouth run off during most of his waking hours.]

I dunno. Maybe? Why stop there? There might be chipmunks or squirrels scurrying around, too.

That would be a lot of picnic baskets! You think that would work?

[A wide grin spreads onto her face at the thought of being able to meet more animals. She knew that she often got hack back at the workshop for loving soft fluffy things as much as she loved machines, but she didn't care. Rikku had long learned how to hold her own with the big boys. She lets out a cheer as she immediately starts up the mountain.]

Well what are we waiting for? We've got animals to see!!

[He laughs at that, answering her with a shrug.]

Seems to work in cartoons. Wouldn't be surprised if the smell really did attract them though. I mean, freshly made goodies just sitting around in the open? No human, or bear, could resist that sort of thing.

[That was one good thing Jensen liked about hanging out with Rikku. They could get into all sorts of nonsensical conversations and it would still be fun to talk about. Now, if only he could figure out the right way so they could get back on track once more.]

And here I thought I was the one leading the way.

[She casts a glance backwards, eyes glittering, genuinely enjoying the banter and seemingly momentarily forgetting about her worry moments ago.]

You think we'll run into their very own park rangers too then? I don't think it'd be complete without one of those guys!

[...Or maybe we spoke too soon. Her carefree grin quickly turns into a pout but her steps don't falter or pause.]

Oh, you still totally are. I'm just the motivator here.

Can't guarantee that we'll run into one. It's not like they're always just standing in one spot like some kind of tourist attraction.

If you want to take the reins of the expedition, then by all means. [He extends the map in her general direction, insisting that she takes it off his hands.] It's about time I got a break anyway.

[tinkerer]

Good thing we have bait then, don't we? [And she can't help but nudge him playful in the side before swiping the map from him.] We'll find one in no time.

[angleofthedangle]

[He's glad for the break but makes a face at that comment.]

Bait, seriously? What makes you so sure that I'm bait-worthy?

[tinkerer]

Well, duh! [She's already got that map out and figuring out their route before getting a move on.] You totally have more fat on you than I do.

I wouldn't make an appetizing meal at all.

[angleofthedangle]

[Yeah, he'll leave her to that map as he starts walking ahead. He turns around to face her, slowly making sure that he doesn't trip on anything as we walks backward.]

I'll have you know that that's muscle, not fat. If I gained any extra pounds, Clay and the rest might've kicked me out by now.

I don't know...you do look like you've gotten a little tubbier since you've been here.

You know, all I'm hearing is "I don't want to be bear-bait."
