[Joel can't help but groan. The last time that happened, he almost wished for a Clicker to show up just to shut her up. Almost.]

You do that and every Runner within earshot will come... running.

[And he punches himself mentally for that. He didn't mean for it to sound like he was joking around.]

[Ellie nearly forgets what she's doing for a minute, stunned silent as she stares at Joel. And then there's the laughing. The knee-smacking, tears in her eyes kind of laugh that's so rare that really, it should be welcome. Welcome were she not laughing at him anyway.]

Oh man... [And dramatically wiping a tear from her eye.] Okay, you have to get me the book now, or else you'll never live that one down.

[Spoiler alert: even if he gets the book, she'll probably still never let it go.]

[Oh, Joel's more than certain that there's no way he'll be able to live that one down. All he could do now was sigh but he shrugs it off, hoping that they could at least get off the topic.]

Fine, fine. Let's get this over with.

[Finally he gets down to a crouch, one hand holding onto where ground meets water, the other extending the broom to the other end. He tries to nudge the comic from the ledge to the broom but it's slow-going. Doing this is hard with only one hand, okok?]

[Ellie watches him struggle awkwardly to nudge the comic, and it's then that she sighs. This may require... another method. She crouches down next to him, hands on her knees.]

You know, I wouldn't be against the whole "get on this floating plank of wood" thing right now.

[It's not her most favourite thing in the world, and Joel's the one who gets totally soaked anyway. The comic book is worth it! As is the reprieve from the joke book, right?]

[While the idea has crossed his mind, Joel could see that he just needed a few more nudges until he got that comic. If he could avoid getting wet today, then, he'd spare himself the hassle.]

[And just as he says that, Joel's hand slips on the moss that had grown at the ledge's edge, and he takes a dive into the near freezing cold water.]
